Dr Radebel, owner of Samuels Lofts is a world renowned pigeon fancier and champion racer, his love for the sport began from childhood. “As a young boy we kept pigeons, but they were park pigeons, street pigeons and we would take our slings and shoot them of off roofs and tame them. My mother was a unique woman and she loved unique and different things and because of that she bought me a fantail pigeon it was very beautiful.” With over 4,000 pigeon fanciers in South Africa. Dr Radebe is one of a few black breeder and racer who believe the sport has the potential to assist the disadvantaged youth soar out of poverty.

“In South Africa we are faced with a lot of challenges especially in townships. There are no jobs and young people resort to bad habits, so why not introduce the pigeon racing sport to the black youth? It is a good hobby that will shift their focus from criminal activities and focus on something positive that will also help them financially.” Dr Radebe is not only one of a few black pigeon racers but a few if not the only one that is excelling in the sport, in 2017 Dr Radebe made history by successfully bidding for Belgium Golden Prince a bird dabbed as the best long-distance racing pigeon for a record of 360,000 EUR. The achievements of Dr Radebe can be credit to his quality spirit and his drive to excel at whatever he does. Not only is Dr Radebe a force to be reckoned with internationally, his pigeon acumen resonates at home as well
